NDIS physiotherapy in Brunswick West
How your plan pays for physiotherapy here, what to bring, and what happens at your first appointment.
Reviewed by Andrew Macdonald, Senior Physiotherapist , AHPRA registered, APA member
Physiotherapy under the NDISis about the same things it is about for anyone else: moving more easily, holding onto the strength and mobility you have, and getting on top of pain that is limiting what you can do. What changes is who pays and how, and that is usually the part that is hardest to get a straight answer on.
Andrew sees NDIS participants at the Brunswick West clinic, and you do not need a referral to book. Below is exactly how each plan type is billed here, so you know before you arrive rather than at the counter.
Plan-managed
Nothing to pay at the counter.
Your plan manager is invoiced directly for your physiotherapy, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you. Bring your plan manager's details, or their email address, to your first appointment and we will set the invoicing up from there.
Self-managed
Pay on the day, claim it back yourself.
You pay for your appointment at the end of the session and claim the reimbursement from the NDIS yourself through the myplace participant portal. You will be given an itemised invoice with everything the claim needs on it before you leave.
NDIA (agency)-managed
Direct billing is not available here.
The clinic is not currently set up to bill NDIA-managed plans directly. If your plan is agency-managed, it is worth a quick call before you book so you know exactly where you stand rather than finding out at the counter.
What an appointment involves
The first session is an assessment. Andrew takes a history, works out what is actually driving the problem, and explains what he finds in plain terms before any treatment starts. From there, sessions combine hands-onmanual therapy with a prescribedexercise rehabilitation programme built around your goals, and, where they suit the problem, dry needling, cupping, shockwave therapy orTENS and ultrasound.
Participants come in with a wide range of things: backand neck pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, recovery after surgery, dizziness and balance problems, andrespiratory conditions. Thefull list of conditions covers the rest.
Where the clinic is
3/66 Melville Road, Brunswick West VIC 3055. Ground floor, with street parking directly out front, and the opposite side of Melville Road is unrestricted at any hour. Full directions, transport and parking detail are on the find us page.
NDIS physiotherapy FAQs
Can I use my NDIS funding for physiotherapy here?
Yes, if your plan is plan-managed or self-managed. Plan-managed participants have their plan manager invoiced directly, so there is no out-of-pocket cost. Self-managed participants pay on the day and claim the reimbursement from the NDIS themselves. The clinic is not currently set up to bill NDIA (agency)-managed plans directly.
Do I need a referral to book?
No. Physiotherapy is a direct-access service, so you can book an appointment yourself without a referral from anyone. If your plan or your support coordinator has asked for a report or a letter after the assessment, let Andrew know at the start of the session so he can allow the time for it.
What should I bring to my first NDIS appointment?
Your NDIS plan or participant number, and your plan manager's contact details if your plan is plan-managed. If you have recent scans, reports or a previous therapy plan, bring those too, they save repeating assessments you have already had done.
Which budget does physiotherapy come out of?
Physiotherapy is generally funded from the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living budget in your plan. Exactly what your plan allows for is set out in the plan itself, and your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm how much of that budget is still available before you book.
How long are appointments, and how many will I need?
A first appointment runs 30 minutes, with a 60-minute option if there is a lot to work through. How many sessions follow depends entirely on what is going on, and Andrew will give you a clear picture of that at the end of the first assessment rather than committing you to a block up front.
Can Andrew write a report for my plan review?
Yes. Assessment findings, goals and progress can be written up for a plan review or for a support coordinator. Ask when you book so the time is set aside, since a report is a separate piece of work from the treatment session itself.
Do you provide physiotherapy at home or in the community?
Appointments are at the Brunswick West clinic. There is street parking directly out front, and the 58 West Coburg tram runs along Melville Road, with stops 35 and 36 a short walk from the door.
