Physiotherapist in Carlton North
Reviewed by Andrew Macdonald, Senior Physiotherapist — AHPRA registered (PHY0002098797), APA member
Carlton North sits a short trip east of the clinic, with Brunswick Road running directly between the two — which makes us a practical option for anyone around Rathdowne Village, Curtain Square or the Princes Park end who would rather not head into the city for physiotherapy.
Getting here from Carlton North
By car or bike it is a straight run west along Brunswick Road, then north into Melville Road — the clinic sits near the southern end, so you are not driving the length of Brunswick West to reach it. There is street parking out front, and the opposite side of Melville Road is unrestricted at any hour.
Coming back through the city, the 58 West Coburg tram runs along Melville Road and stops almost at the door, at stop 35 or 36.
What Carlton North patients come in for
The pattern here is much like the rest of the inner north: lower back and neck pain that builds up over a desk-based working week, shoulder and knee injuries, and running niggles picked up on the Princes Park loop or the Capital City Trail. Andrew Macdonald also sees a steady stream of post-surgical rehabilitation — knees, shoulders and hips — where the work is structured over a course of sessions rather than a single visit.
See the full list of conditions treated here and the treatment techniques Andrew uses, from manual therapy and dry needling through to shockwave therapy for stubborn tendon injuries.
Booking and fees
No referral is needed to book, and appointments run to 7:00pm on weeknights and all day Saturday, so a session does not have to cost you a working morning. Every consultation fee is published on the fees page rather than quoted on the phone, and HICAPS is on site for claiming before you leave.
If this is your first time seeing a physiotherapist, what to expect at your first appointment covers what to bring, what to wear, and how the initial assessment works.

Frequently asked questions
Do you see patients from Carlton North?
Yes — Carlton North sits just east of us across Royal Parade, and Brunswick Road connects the two directly. Our clinic is at 3/66 Melville Road, Brunswick West, near the southern end of Melville Road where it meets Brunswick Road.
How do I get to the clinic from Carlton North?
By car or bike it is a straight run west along Brunswick Road, then north into Melville Road. Coming through the city, the 58 West Coburg tram runs along Melville Road itself — get off at stop 35 or 36, just after the 7-Eleven.
Is there parking at the clinic?
Yes — there is on-street parking directly in front of the clinic on Melville Road, and the opposite side of the road is unrestricted at any hour. On the clinic's side you cannot park between 7:00am and 9:00am on weekdays, so for an early appointment, park across the road.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. Physiotherapy is a direct-access service in Australia, so you can book straight in as a private patient. Bring your health fund card and the rebate is claimed through HICAPS before you leave.
